A review (Morris, Perry & Wardle, 2021) shows that several studies indicate that regular, shorter quizzes improved students' performance. An interesting observation was that weekly quizzes were as effective as two quizzes per week. Both options were better than no quizzes at all. It was especially effective when the quizzes were combined with feedback on whether the student answered correctly, along with guidance on what to study before the next test. The authors argue that the use of quizzes is "a good bet" for educators in higher education to facilitate student learning.
