Information to teachers who are mentors for teacher training students majoring in English at Linnaeus University

First of all we'd like to thank you for taking care of one or more of our Swedish students. Teaching practice placements abroad is an integral and vital part of our internationalization efforts at Linnaeus University, and as a mentor for one of our students you are playing an important role in our strategic work to offer relevant and qualitative placements abroad.

This website gives you a great deal of important and interesting information concerning our students' time abroad. Please study the material carefully, especially the booklet Teaching practice placement in languages in the Teacher Education Programme. This booklet is an exact copy of the material that the students who do their teaching practice in Sweden use, and we think that it is important to stress that aims and objectives of a teaching practice in Sweden and abroad can and should be the same. The whole idea, however, with a practice period abroad is for students to realize that there are different ways of achieving the same goals.

We wish you good luck in your work together with our students and please do not hesitate to contact us, should you have questions or ideas that you'd like to discuss with us.

This booklet should be used by student teachers as well as their mentors as a basis for discussions and  for formative assessment of the student's work inside and outside the classroom during the practice period. After the practice period, the mentor(s) should fill out their assessment in the booklet (either directly in the interactive pdf version of the file, or on paper that is then scanned) and mail to the contact person mentioned above.

Teaching practice placement abroad (pdf)

This booklet is mainly for the student to use as a guide before, during and after her/his time abroad. It contains academic as well as practical information that is useful for students going abroad. The guide emphasizes how important it is to set up aims also for the parts of the stay abroad which are not set in the syllabus. It can, of course, also be used as a good manual for interesting and giving talks between student teachers and mentors or other school staff.
