Dear student,

You are cordially welcome to the first term of the exciting, interdisciplinary and international Master Programme in English Language and Literature (MELL). (Course code: 4EN100). The full programme lasts four terms, the first of which is a 30-credit, full-time course that runs throughout the 2020 autumn term (30 August 2021–16 January 2022). We are looking forward to hosting you at Campus Växjö, where excellent teaching and internationally renowned research within our Linnaeus University Centers of Research (LNUC) meet. We are confident that you will soon find yourself immersed in thought-provoking and challenging course work, extracurricular activities and life in Sweden.

The first course is divided into five modules: English – an Interdisciplinary Subject (5 credits), Academic Communication (5 credits), Cognitive Poetics (5 credits), Sustainability and Gender in Language and Literature (7,5 credits), Language, Literature and Global Values (7,5 credits). Each course is taught by two or more teachers, who are experts in their specific subject. During the first term, we emphasize interdisciplinary perspectives between linguistics and literature, and invite you to explore the field of English studies broadly. During terms two and three, you will get the opportunity to focus on specific areas of interest, and during term four you will write your Master’s thesis.

Module 5: Language, Literature and Global Values

Remember to purchase the literature before the course begins. This is especially important for the two first modules running in parallel during the first part of the term. The course literature is listed towards the end of the course syllabus (see link below). Please note that the lists of course literature often include a secondary list of additional or supporting literature, which the teachers recommend but which you do no necessarily need to get in order to complete the course.

The English department uses an online course management tool called MyMoodle. Please note that you will need a student account log-in to be able to access the course material in MyMoodle. This service opens about one week before the course starts.

Note that you will have to register on the course in order to be able to follow it. You can sometimes register online. However, if this does not work you will be registered when attending the compulsory introductory meeting, which is scheduled for the 30 August 2021, 10:15-12:00, in room F322.

If you decide not to take the course after registering, please contact one of our Ladok secretaries so that they can take you off the lists.

For contact information and links to MyMoodle, schedules and other relevant information, please click here!

Please note that students who are not participating actively in the course during the first two weeks will be crossed off the register.

If you have any further questions before the course starts, please do not hesitate to contact us.
