1. Tasks in Module 2

  • Module 2 is very important because during the module you will create strong building blocks for empirical data collection and analysis.
  • It is also important to go back to the course e-book in order for you to structure your thesis well; the e-book will serve as the basis for grading your thesis.

Tasks

  • The main task during Module 2 is to read plenty of literature, write and re-write the first sections of your thesis.
  • Instructions:
    • Use LNU template directly (see relevant chapter in course e-book).
    • At this stage, focus on key ideas rather than fine writing.
    • Sections to focus on in Module 2 are:
      1. Introduction (as complete as possible, following instructions in e-book)
      2. Background (at least one page)
      3. Previous research (at least two pages)
      4. Theoretical basis (at least one page)
      5. Methodology (at least one page)
    • Refer to the main e-book of the course, esp. chapter "Key components of the thesis" on how to structure the sections.
  • At module start, contact your supervisor and book an individual Zoom supervision with her/him; plan the meeting for when you will have your draft completed as this will be the focus of the session.
  • Post your first draft by the end of the third week of Module 2 to the forum, in your group.
  • Then read at least two other students' drafts and engage in a discussion via the forum -- reflect on what they have done, suggest what they could do to further improve the writing, by Wednesday evening of the fourth week.
    • In this way you are learning from one another and supporting each other.
    • This will not be specially graded but enhances learning and also prepares you for the final seminar examination in which you will need to review one thesis.
    • Do this within your group, unless there are not enough proposals -- in that case choose another group's student.
  • Based on feedback from the supervisor and fellow students, re-write the research plan and submit the updated version by the end of Module 2 to the forum.
