Objectives

After completing the course, the student should be able to:

  • in speech and writing discuss the applicability of postcolonial theories in comparative literature,
  • compare and discuss important research in texts and fiction within the field of postcolonial studies,
  • account for how historical processes and literary developments have shaped the field of postcolonial studies,
  • apply central theoretical concepts in analyses of literary texts.

Content

What does postcolonial theory do for literature? This course deepens the knowledge of postcolonial theory and how it has been applied within the field of literature. You will study central theoretical texts in relation to comparative literature. It prepares for further analysis of literature in a historical as well as a contemporary context.
