  • As a student representative on the program council, you have the opportunity to influence the development and design of individual programs. Here, you represent all students enrolled in your program. Hopefully, as a student in the program, you have a good understanding of your classmates’ opinions on various issues, but our advice is to pay a bit of extra attention to what’s being said around you regarding the education.

    Purpose of the Body: Advisory body for the program coordinator. The program council serves as a preparatory body for the Undergraduate Education Board (GUN) on matters related to the quality and strategic planning of the educational offerings.

    Participants: Program coordinator, teacher representatives, student representatives, external representatives.

    Meeting Frequency: At least once per year.

      • Role and Mission
        • You represent all students in your program – even those who are not members of the student union.
        • Your role is to contribute to the quality development of the education by voicing the students’ opinions.
        • You are a link between the students and the university, and an important part of student influence.

        Function of the Program Council
        • The program council is an advisory body to the program director and works on issues related to the quality and development of the education.
        • At least one meeting per semester is held, often two.

        Composition
        • Consists of teachers, student representatives, and external representatives from working life.
        • One student representative per year group is recommended.
        • You are appointed by Linnékåren and usually serve for the entire duration of your program. Application forms are available on the union’s website.
         
        Before Meetings
        • Read through the agenda and meeting materials in advance.
        • Consider what your fellow students think – you don’t need to know everything, but keep your ear to the ground.
        • You can always contact Linnékåren or other student representatives for support.
         
        During Meetings
        • The most common question: “What do the students think?”
        • It’s okay not to have all the answers – ask to follow up if you’re unsure.
        • You have the same rights and responsibilities as other members of the council.
         
        After Meetings
        • Please provide feedback to Linnékåren on what was discussed.
        • You will receive compensation for your work – remember to report your meeting hours (see the section on Compensation above).

        Remuneration
        • Compensation includes preparation, meeting time, and follow-up work.
        • 1–2 hour meeting: SEK 350
        • 3–4 hour meeting: SEK 600

        Support and Training
        • Linnékåren organizes training for student representatives at least once per academic year.
        • You should participate in the training to gain a better understanding of the university’s organization, student politics, and meeting procedures.
        • You can receive a certificate for your role as a student representative. Talk to the convenor.

        Rights and Responsibilities
        • You have the right to participate in all bodies where decisions are made concerning education or student matters.
        • You should not participate in individual student or staff cases, except for the disciplinary board.
        • If you feel you are not given the influence you are entitled to, you can (via the union) submit a complaint.
