Welcome to the International Business Programme Fall 2024

Congratulations! You have been admitted to the International Business Programme (180 credits) at the School of Business and Economics at Linnaeus University, Campus Kalmar. With this letter, we would like to welcome you and provide you with some important information before the start of the semester.

 

Programme/course introduction

The programme introduction and roll call will take place Monday 26th of August, 10.15-12.00 in House Magna, Room Porfyr (Ma1065) at Universitetskajen 1, Campus Kalmar. During this introductory meeting, the head of programme will welcome all new students and provide an introduction to the programme and what to expect from, and how to prepare for, studying at Linnaeus University and the School of Business and Economics. This session also marks the start of the introductory week, where you start to get to know those with whom you will spend the next three years. During the Introduction Week our student organization Kalmar ESS will arrange a number of fun and team-building events, and for international students there are orientation days to learn more from. 

The course introduction and roll call for the first course, International Business Studies – The Business Environment (course code 1IR593) will take place Monday 2nd of September, 10.15-13.00 in House Magna, Room Porfyr (Ma1065), Universitetskajen 1, Campus Kalmar. Here the course responsible will introduce some relevant information on taking courses at the School of Business and Economics as well as information about the course structure, content, examinations etc. important for successful studies. 

Also note in your calendar the Onboarding Day for all new bachelor students on Tuesday 10th of September! More information will follow.

Further information on courses

Your first course on the IBP programme will be International Business Studies – The Business Environment (course code 1IR593). General information regarding course content and literature can be found in the course syllabus, which you can find here: https://lnu.se/en/student/during-your-studies/course-and-programme-syllabi/

The course literature for the first course is:

Hamilton, L. & Webster, P. The International Business Environment. Oxford: Oxford University Press. Latest edition. Selected chapters. About 150 pages. 

The book is available to buy online via e.g. Adlibris or Amazon. Some copies are available for lending/work with onsite at the university library Stella. 

Before the start of all courses, you can find syllabuses, literature lists, course information from course responsible and timetables online via mymoodle.lnu.se. The timetable usually is completed and published about four weeks before the course starts. You can search the timetable manually in TimeEdit (search with course code). Note, each course is planned for 40 hours of study each week. Besides the scheduled activities such as lectures, seminars and exams, time is given for self-studies and assignments.


Obtain a student account and register

As a student, you must register for each course – the registration period is one week prior and one week after the course starts. To register, you must have a student account. You will find information on how to get one at www.lnu.se/en/student/new-student/. You must register to begin studying in each of the courses you have been admitted to.

At the IBP programme Fall 2024 you will take the following courses, registration period is one week prior to and after the start date of each course:

- International Business Studies – The Business Environment, course code 1IR593, 15 credits (10 weeks) starting 2nd of September

- Introduction to International Law, course code 1RV101, 7.5 cr (5 weeks) starting 11th of November

- Crosscultural Communication in Business, course code 1FE421, 7.5 cr (5 weeks) starting 16th of December, ending 19th of January 2025

Pay your tuition fee

A requirement to register is to have paid the tuition fee, so make sure to apply for the course in due time, order an invoice, and pay it in order to be able to register for the course - more information about tuition fees can be found at: www.lnu.se/en/student/new-student/tuition-fees-and-scholarships/
