Preparing for the first module
Hi everyone
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you at the end of August and to working with you on your first module - Global Perspectives.
You'll see from the course prospectus, that there are 3 main text books:
- Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari
- The dawn of everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow
- The great convergence by Richard Baldwin
You're expected to have access to all of these during the course (which is not the same as buying them all new). The first two are popular scholarship and you should be able to get hold of a copy in a bookshop, an online book service like bokus.com or amazon.se, or even through your local library. You can also try looking for them secondhand through the campus bookstore *(https://en.campusbokhandeln.se/).
Baldwin is available as an ebook through the university library, and you can find it by using the search box on the main library page: https://lnu.se/en/library/. If you want your own paper copy, then try the bookshops
In terms of preparing yourself before the course starts, you could start looking at the Harari text. It's relatively easy reading and it will introduce you to some of the ideas about how our globalised world developed.I'll put a set of questions up to help you with your reading on module website a week or two before the module starts.
All the best
Chris High
